At Avenue House School, preparation for the 11+ begins early and is thoughtfully built into our curriculum from Year 3 onwards.
This gradual approach ensures that by the time pupils reach Year 6, they feel confident, capable and fully prepared for their next steps.
We use Cambridge Primary Insight assessments at the start of each academic year, alongside end-of-year testing, to track progress and identify each child’s strengths and areas for development. These assessments help guide meaningful conversations with families about future pathways, including potential senior school choices.
Pupils are supported in developing both their knowledge and the skills needed to apply it effectively in exams and interviews. Regular assessment opportunities, including annual testing from Year 1, ensure children build familiarity and confidence over time.
Throughout this journey, we place each child’s wellbeing at the centre of everything we do. Our aim is to minimise stress, build resilience and create a positive, supportive experience. We ensure children continue a broad and varied curriculum all throughout the year.
We are proud that many of our Year 6 pupils achieve excellent results in the 11+ and go on to secure places at a wide range of highly regarded senior schools.
